Dragon Sourcing has an established record of helping numerous businesses to manage their sourcing needs from advanced as well as emerging markets throughout the world. This is a case study that was done by Dragon Sourcing to recommend competitive suppliers from mainland China for Bier syringe sourcing. The main deliverables of this case study included:

  • RFI-RFQ templates
  • Supplier database
  • RFI-RFQ analysis report
  • Supplier profiles and ranking

Dragon Sourcing first analysed the products and key requirements of the client, including specs, material, capacity, production technology, quality testing, certificates et cetera. We extensively discussed with the client about the pre-screening selection criteria. Once the pre-screening criteria were finalised, Dragon Sourcing carried out a supply market analysis of the potential suppliers in mainland China by leveraging the extensive DS database, B2B websites, network and references, magazines, fair catalogues and Chamber of Commerce.

Based on the supply market analysis, Dragon Sourcing carried out telephonic pre-screening based on the criteria agreed upon with the client. The criteria included factors like the capability to make the products, minimum company size, quality certification and interest in participating. 66 potential suppliers were identified and called. Amongst these, 26 suppliers passed the phone screening. 20 suppliers signed back the NDA and included it in the RFI/RFQ process. 15 mold injection suppliers have responded to the RFI/RFQ.

In the next step, the RFI document was developed with an aligned balanced scorecard. It had the objective to prequalify the competitiveness and capabilities of the suppliers. It included important elements like background, client references, financials, product experience, quality certification & processes, Manufacturing/technology capability, R&D capability and social responsibility.

The RFI-RFQ was then distributed to the suppliers who had passed pre-screening in the previous step and signed the NDA. To ensure maximum participation, telephone follow-up was also conducted.

After the 15 suppliers responded to the RFI-RFQ, Dragon Sourcing created another balance scorecard by consulting with the client to further evaluate the suppliers and analyse the RFI-RFQ. After analysing the RFI-RFQ responses a final report was prepared, which profiles & objectively ranked the suppliers by their capabilities, including a recommendation for those to be audited.

7 suppliers were recommended. The recommendation was based on their scores on the RFI scorecard, their overall experience, the quality certification they have, the number of employees and their production volume. This project lasted for 12 weeks and in the end, all the graphs and reports were handed over to the client.
